How You Can Help

Volunteers are needed for

  • publicity/marketing assistance
  • school programs and special programs
  • educational displays
  • maintenance around the Center (weeding, trimming, planting)
  • weekly cleaning inside the center
  • trail maintenance
  • odd jobs

If you would enjoy helping the Welty Environmental Center with any projects, you may fill out a Volunteer Interest Survey Form (see form instructions). (If the survey form does not download, you may print, fill in, and mail a basic Volunteer Application Form.) Contact the WEC at 608-361-1377.

Spring-Summer 2008 Volunteer Opportunities

April 25 - Evansville Energy Fair @ Evansville Middle School, 4:30pm-8:30pm
Help is needed to staff Welty info table. 1 volunteer requested.

April 26 - BLOOM @ Rotary River Center, 9am-noon
Help is needed to staff Welty info table. 1 volunteer requested.

April 26 - Samuel's Recycling Earth Day Celebration, 7:30-2pm
Help is needed to staff Welty info table. Volunteer can staff the table for as many or little hours they can (10-2, 11-2, 8-10). 1-3 volunteers requested.

April 26 - FREC Earth Day Festival @ Spencer Conservation Area in Belvidere, 1pm-4pm
Help is needed to staff Welty info table. 1 volunteer requested.

DATE TBA - Help needed to put up the large tent for the Rendezvous. Help is needed to set out posts, pound in posts, lift the tent, tie knots, and more! Help will also be needed to take the tent down after the Rendezvous. If you can help, let me know and I will let you know the specific date and time the tent will be put up.

May 1 - Jackson Elementary, 2nd grade, 60 students, 9am-2:30pm
Help is needed to staff stations for program. Program is on water and soil. Volunteers will assist and lead students through the water cycle, what is soil activity, and/or F.T. Shrew story activity. No previous experience required. Volunteers will need to attend a short training on all that is required to lead a station either the morning or days before the program. Minimum 2 volunteers required.

May 2 - Lincoln Elementary, 2nd grade, 75 students, 9am-2:30pm
This is the same exact program as May 1st. Once again help is needed to staff stations for program. Program is on water and soil. Volunteers will assist and lead students through the water cycle, what is soil activity, and/or F.T. Shrew story activity. No previous experience required. Volunteers will need to attend a short training on all that is required to lead a station either the morning or days before the program. Minimum 2 volunteers required.

May 3 - Welty Nature Rendezvous - 8:30am-4pm
Volunteers needed to assist with many activities for Welty's annual Nature Rendezvous festival.
* Volunteers needed to help set-up tents, tables, and chairs before the event and take down after the event (7:30am-9:30am and 4:00pm-5:00pm).
* Volunteers needed to staff kid's activity area (10am-4pm, 2 hours shifts).
* Volunteers needed to staff breakfast area (7:30am-10am).
* Volunteers needed to introduce speakers (10am-4pm, 2 hour shifts)
* Volunteers needed to staff farm tours (10:30, 12:30, and 2:30)
* Volunteers needed to assist with silent auction (10am-4pm)
* Volunteers needed to survey festival visitors (10am-4pm, 2 hours shifts)

May 7-23 - 5th Grade Ecology Trips - 8:30am-10:30am or 12:30pm-2:30pm
5th graders from the School District of Beloit will take part in the ecology trips with high school students as their guides. 1 volunteer needed for each program to assist with guiding student groups as they complete their water and soil studies.

May 28 - Milton West Elementary, 3rd grade, 60 students, 9:30-1pm
Volunteers are needed to assist and lead stations for soil program. This program is very similar to the programs on May 1 and 2. There will be 3 stations each focusing on soil; how it is made, soil as a habitat, and conservation of soil. Volunteers will need to attend a short training on all that is required to lead a station either the morning or days before the program. Minimum 2 volunteers needed.

May 30 - Our Redeemer Lutheran School, 3rd grade, 20 students, 9am-2pm
Volunteer needed to assist with pond program. Volunteer will assist and help lead the students in the program. 1 volunteer requested. No experience required. Volunteer will need to arrive early for a quick training.

June 3 - First Lutheran Preschool, preschoolers, 20 students, 10am-11:30am
Volunteer needed to help with a pond walk for preschoolers. Volunteer will assist with the pond walk by showing students various items along the walk. 1 volunteer needed.

June 4 - St. Paul's Lutheran School, preschoolers, 20 students, 10am-11:30am
Volunteer needed to help with a pond walk for preschoolers. Volunteer will assist with the pond walk by showing students various items along the walk. 1 volunteer needed.

June 4 - St. Paul's Lutheran School, preschoolers, 20 students, 12:30pm-2pm
Volunteer needed to help with a pond walk for preschoolers. Volunteer will assist with the pond walk by showing students various items along the walk. 1 volunteer needed.

June 5 - Robinson Elementary, 5th graders, 24 students, 9am-2:30pm
Volunteer needed to assist program on ponds and food webs. Volunteer will need to attend training the day of or before the program. 1 volunteer requested.

June 11 - Whitewater Elementary School, 5th graders, 60 students, 9am-12pm
Volunteers needed to lead 5th graders through water program. Volunteers will lead stations such as water cycle, enviroscape, and river of words station. Volunteers will need to attend a training the day of or before the program. Minimum 2 volunteers requested.
